Sri Hanumanji is an incarnation of Lord Siva
.
Brihaspati (the preceptor of the gods) had an attendant by the name of Punjikasthala who was cursed to assume the body of a female monkey. The curse was to be removed on her giving birth to an incarnation of Lord Siva. Accordingly, she was born as Anjana and, together with her husband Kesari (so named on account of his being as brave as a lion), lived a life of chastity and purity. She performed intense Tapasya (austerities) for a great many years, during which period she worshipped Lord Siva who being pleased with her granted her a boon. She asked that He (Lord Siva) be born to her so that she may be freed from the curse.
When Dasaratha, the king of Ayodhya was given the sacred payasa (pudding) by Agnideva to share among his wives so that they may have divine children (Ram, Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna), by divine ordinance, a bird (kite) snatched a fragment of that pudding and, whilst flying over the forest, dropped it where Anjana was engaged in worship. Pavandev (the deity presiding over the wind) delivered that fragment of pudding to the outstretched hands of Anjana who immediately swallowed it. With that grace, she, in due course, gave birth to Hanumanji. Thus we find that Lord Siva incarnated as Hanumanji in the bodily form of a monkey through the grace and blessings of his god-father Pavandev, with Anjana and Kesari as his earthly parents.
As soon as Hanumanji was born, Anjana was released from the curse and wished to return to Heaven. Hanumanji asked his mother what his future would be and how he was to earn his living. She assured him that he would never be destroyed, and said that fruits as ripe as the rising sun would form his food. Thinking that the glowing and glittering sun was food to be eaten by him, the baby Hanumanji being divine in nature, made just one leap for it. He was 1600 miles from the sun when Rahu, who was exclusively enabled to harass the sun (thus causing eclipses or obstacles to the sun) complained to Indra (king of the gods in heaven) of this new threat to his power. Indra struck Hanumanji with his thunderbolt, wounding his chin and causing him to fall down to earth.
The god-father Pavandev carried Hanumanji to Patala (the nether regions) and as he departed from the earth, all life was endangered. Brahma and all the other gods went to Patala and begged Pavandev to return. In order to appease him they conferred great boons on the baby Hanumanji. The blessings of all the gods made Hanumanji invincible and more powerful than any other being, divine or ordinary. Thus Hanumanji is an embodiment of the powers of all the gods and goddesses.

Story of Sri Hanuman's name
According to Hindu mythology, Hanuman is the son of Pavan (the Wind God). Air sustains all living beings. One can exist without food, spend days without water; but it is impossible to exist even for a short time without air. Air is life. Therefore, Hanuman is also called 'Pranadeva' or the God of Life.
Once upon a time, when he was young, Sri Hanuman felt very hungry. Looking up he saw in the east something red. Sri Hanuman had the power to fly.He thought that the red sun was a fruit and flew up to snatch it. What was a child's whim became something serious as the gods feared that he might attack the Sun. Though the sun's heat burnt his face, Hanuman was determined and continued to fly towards the sun. Indra, the Lord of Heaven, feared that the sun might be caught. So he hit at Hanuman with his terrible weapon Vajra-yudha. Hanuman fell down and was hurt. His cheeks became swollen.
This is why he came to be called Hanuman. 'Hanu' in Sanskrit means the chin.

Hanumad Ramayana
Jai Sri Ram,
We want to share the story of Hanumad Ramayan with fellow devotees. This ramayan was written by Lord Hanuman himself and was destroyed by him too.
A parable is told that Hanuman originally scripted the entire Ramayana on claytablets, recording each and every detail of what Rama did, and brought them to Rama, to bless that narrative. Rama humbly said to Hanuman, “I have not done anything that great, to be recorded and narrated to people…I have done my righteous duty…that’s all” Then Hanuman was upset. Dejected by the slighting away of his great deeds as simple acts of duty by Rama, Hanuman brought those clay tablets to seashore, recited each verse, broke each tablet on his knee and threw into the sea. This is called hanumad ramayana. This is unavailable from then on. But one tablet came ashore floating on the sea, which is retrieved during the period of Mahakavi Kalidasa, and hung at a public place to be deciphered by scholars. There on that tablet only one foot of a stanza is available. That foot says “Oh! Ravana, those your ten heads, on which you lifted of Mt. Kailsha, the abode of God Shiva, are now bumped by the feet of crows and eagles, know what has happened to your high-headed pride, at the hands of virtue…” Kalidasa deciphers it and informs that is from hanumad ramayana recorded by Hanuman, but an extinct script, and salutes that clay plate for he is fortunate enough to see at least one foot of the stanza

Hanuman Jayanti
Lord Hanuman was born on the chaitra Shukla Purnima(Full moon day on the Hindu Calendar Month of Chaitra). He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman is venerated as the greatest disciple of Lord Sri Ram. He is seen as the embodiment of devotion and loyalty and is one of the rare Hindu god who has taken a vow of celibacy. He was born to (Wind-God) Kesari and Anjani. Hanuman became a legend mainly for his unflinching devotion and loyalty for Paramatma Lord Ram. He was an ideal karma yogi for his fearless, selfless service, humility and devotion for Lord Ram. Lord Hanuman is the only deity that cannot be troubled by negative energies.
Hanuman Jayanti is an important festival of Hindus. Hanuman is the symbol of strength and energy. Hanuman is said to be able to assume any form at will, wield rocks, move mountains, dart through the air, seize the clouds and rival Garuda in swiftness of flight. He is worshipped in folk tradition as a deity with magical powers and the ability to conquer evil spirits. Also known as an avatara of Lord Rama, he is considered the God of power (Maruti).
In 2009 Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated on Thursday, April 9th 2009.
Im 2010, Hanuman jayanti will be celebrated on Tuesday March 30th, 2010
